Blogger vs Msn space

[Old blog on 22-05-2006 @Orange is me]
I just realize Msn space is not easy to use compare with Blogger. Blogger has unbeatable speed of uploading photos and refreshing after changes. For example, this blog is created just for waiting my Msn space finish uploading a photo. The convenient interface enables you upload photo, create and edit posts easily. It even provides a simple template which helps you to organize your photo and text.
Of course, Msn space also has its respectable features, such as viewing photos like slide show.
Looks like I have an occupational disease now, I can not prevent myself performing usability test whenever possible. So, what is the next?

Blog lover
Don't know since when I became a 'blog lover'. It is not only because I love to write, the more important fact is I'd like to apply my HTML, CSS knowledge when I design my owe blog layout.
One thing I want to comment here is the usage of blogger. In the 'Edit Html' mode, a normal paragraph break will have the same effect as '[p][/p]'. So please don't use paragraph tag anymore. Otherwise you will create two line breaks.
I will write more about different blog websites later. A quick link can be found in the sidebar "Blogs".

Bug of Mozilla Thunderbird for Chinese email attachment
[Old blog on 13-05-2006 @Orange is me]
Thunderbird is my favorite email client. However, I found some interesting things while using it today. We all know that English version of windows XP support Asian language input. You can type and view Asian characters after install CJK language package, which is quite convenient for people like me.
Today, I'm trying to send an email with an Word attachment both name and content written in Chinese using Mozilla Thunderbird and using UTF-8 for character encoding. Some strange things happened.
- Sina: You can not see the attachment at all.
- Hotmail: The attachment become like Attach.bin, and you are forced to open it with Microsoft word by using "Open with" function.
- Yahoo: It is almost same like Hotmail, the attachment become like File.bin.
- Gmail: The attached word file's name changed to gibberish name, but you can still open it as normal.
I believe the problem is caused by Thunderbird, it only encode the email content with UTF-8 while not the name of the attachment. Then the above email system can not recognize the attachment correctly.
Looks like Gmail is slightly superior than the other email systems. Maybe it is because my outgoing SMTP server is Gmail in Thunderbird. A conclusion for comparation of different email system is far to reach.

Adblock of Mozilla Firefox vs Security control of IE
[Old blog on 17-01-2006 @Orange is me]
I'm thinking about Adblock things for a long time. Why does the Adblock block flash file and treat it as AD? I'm learning how to bulid flash movie recently, the problem blow up after I publish my flash movie to the website. The same problem happened to IE, the new security control block flash file on page.
How to distinguish the real AD and normal flash file is a problem to solve in the near future.
I got some answer of Flash here:
The Macromedia Flash Player displays content created with Macromedia Flash such as web application front-ends, high-impact website user interfaces, interactive online advertising, and short-form to long-form animation.Does it means "interactive online advertising" is one of the aims of Flash? I'm confusing.
Problem sloved in IE by:Internet Options -> Security tab -> Custom level -> ActiveX controls and plugins [Change from Disable (default) to Enable, then IE would download Flash from the codebase tag]

Mozilla Thunderbird vs Outlook
My university email is using Microsoft Exchange Server. It is turned out that Thunderbird can not be used as an email client if the exchange server doesn't support pop or imap. Some discussion are found out in this forum.
If Microsoft wishes to keep its native Exchange mail protocol propreitary, it is legally allowed to do so. That is what prevents Mozilla from developing the ability for Thunderbird to run against a native Exchange server. No number of programmers is going to get past that barrier. As I claimed many years ago, I'm an anti-Microsoft person. The usability of Outlook is just like !@#$%^&&. If you had tried other mail client before, you will know what I mean. Obviously, people may argue with me that outlook has calendar function, notebook function, etc. But, please wait moment, we are talking about email client at this moment. If Outlook can improve more on the email function, their sub function will be a big plus.
Don't over vote to the supererogatory function until the main function get satisfaction.

Mozilla Firefox vs IE II
Monday, February 12, 2007
[Old blog on 13-05-2006 @Orange is me]
As a User Centered Designer, I like Mozilla Firefox more than IE. Firefox knows how to please website viewers. The convenient idea of “opea a new tab” allows you to open multiple webpage within one window. Users can easily go through the webpage they opened without suffering the limited task bar space. If you have experience in using Firefox, you will understand how easy it is. You can also adjust the text font size simply by using "Ctrl++".
Sometimes, just a trivial and un-innovative way can increase the pleasure of usage.
Update on 13-02-2007: the latest version of Mozilla Firefox(2.0.0.1) embed spell checker, which is a wonderful gift for people like me, especially when you write an email. Well, the good news about IE7 is that "New Tap" function is also applied. I don't know why Firefox didn't apply a patent for such function since Microsoft always do that.

Mozilla Firefox vs IE I
[Old blog on 01-07-2005 @Orange is me]

Do you realize the difference? IE cannot show the "Archives" section and the Blogger logo. Microsoft knows how to make money. They even block some website from Mozilla user. After getting error message like "you must use Microsoft Windows" by viewing englishtown.msn.com, I decide to give up on using IE for as long as possible.
Update on 12-02-2007: you can view englishtown.msn.com website with Mozilla now.
